Pinochle Card Games - Looking for something to do on Monday nights? Why not consider joining our card group. We begin at 7pm. and play 8 games of pinochle. It's a fun group and a great social night.

Bingo is held Sunday night beginning at 6:30pm. Doors open at 5.

Bequest - Our Parish has received another disbursement in the amount of $22,725.70 from the Estate of Helen Chickilly. We most appreciate Helen's generosity and ask that you keep her and all her family in your thoughts and prayers. These funds will be added to our building fund, hopefully, to pay all of the expenses for the choir loft renovation - Building fund now stands at $67,500.

OLOAA News
Registration for new students at Our Lady of the Angels Academy for the 2010 /2011 school year are now being accepted from 9am to 2pm at the school. Other arrangements can be made if this is inconvenient by calling the school at 645-7170/7101. Children registering for kindergarten must be five years old by October 15 following the September when they enter school. First graders must be six years old by October 15 following the September when they enter school.
Please bring the following information with you:

- Baptismal Certificate
- Immunization Records
- $50.00 Registration Fee

Tenth Year Anniversary Cookbook - Please call Betty Pampanin (645-3914 or jpssbp@ptd.net) or Marie Nihen (645-5307 or marie9@ptd.net) with questions or to order. Cookbooks will be available around Mother's Day.

Track Coaches are needed in order for our students to participate in the CYO Track meets. If you can help, please contact Tim Hoben or the School Office at 645-7170.

Open House/Information Night - Our Lady of the Angels Academy will hold an Open House/Information Night on Monday, March 15th from 6 to 8pm. If you are looking for a small class, family-oriented atmosphere in a Christian environment, then you will want to attend. Come to learn the various ways to make tuition affordable for you.

OLOAA is a Pre K to 8th grade program. Meet with our faculty, parents and students to learn about our wonderful school. Families of all faiths are welcome.

Thank You - Our Lady of the Angels Academy Faculty and Sister Regina are very grateful to all who supported our Ash Wednesday Fish Dinner by purchasing tickets, oil/coal chances and/or 50-50 chances. The winner of the $100 oil/coal was Eileen Metro of Lansford and the winner of the 50/50 Drawing was Anna Melnick. Congratulations to both our winners!

Thank you to the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association Sr. Branch 140 and Jr. Branch 46 for their support of our fundraiser. The FCSLA donated $500.

Protecting All God's Children
A Protecting All God's Children workshop will be help at Our Lady of the Angels Academy on March 24th from 6-9 PM. This workshop is mandated for anyone who has contact with our youth today in any capacity--coaches, teachers, volunteers, etc. If interested in attending, please call the school office at 570-645-7101.

Free Tax Preparation Assistance is being offered by DeSales University Accounting students. Junior and Senior accounting students will provide senior citizens and those with lower incomes tax preparation services beginning Monday, Jan. 25 through Thursday, April 1.Students are required to pass a test given by the IRS in order to receive certification to participate in the program. The program is sponsored by the IRS and supervised by Christopher R. Cocozza, chairperson of DeSales University's Dept. of Business. For more information or to schedule an appointment, individuals can call 610-282-1100, ext. 1868. A DeSales student will return the phone call and provide assistance accordingly. Individuals needing assistance should bring all printed tax information and all documents pertaining to federal, state and local taxes to their appointment.

Summit Hill Food Pantry - "Do unto others as you would do unto you" - Food donations or monetary donations can be dropped off at the Parish Office. Every donation is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Our Lady's Missionaries of the Eucharist , 640 E. Main Street, Birdsboro, PA, invites all to hear Capuchin Franciscan, Father Angelus Shaughnessy speak on Thursday, March 18th. He is a frequent presenter on ETWN, an author, and National Executive Director of the Arch-Confraternity of Christian Mothers. Shepherd House, Inc. is the local food pantry system that provides services at nine locations throughout Carbon County including Summit Hill & Lansford. Shepherd House will also be hosting a theatrical production of "His Last Days". Trinity Evangelical Church, 175 South Third Street, Lehighton, will present this program on March 12th. A poster can be seen on our Parish bulletin board. A free-will offering will be accepted at the door to benefit Carbon County Shepherd House and will be used to support community needs.

Summit Hill Lions Club is offering a $250 award to a graduating senior from Marian Catholic and Panther Valley High School for community service. For more information on this award, contact the guidance counselor at your respective high school. Deadline for applicants is March 31st.

Summit Hill Fire Department needs your recipes for their cookbook. If interested, please drop recipes at: Borough Hall; St. Joseph Church; Presbyterian Church; Hiles Brothers, and Breslin's. The Carbon/Schuylkill Serra Club will host a Holy Hour for Vocations on Monday, March 15, 2010, at St. Jerome's Church in Tamaqua, beginning at 6:00 P.M. with Mass. The Celebrant for the Mass will be Father James Bechtel, pastor of St. Jerome's and Chaplain of the Carbon/Schuylkill Serra Club. The Holy Hour prayers will be from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M., ending with Benediction. Please join us as we pray to Almighty God to bless our area with new vocations to the Priesthood and to the Religious life and to sustain those already involved in the active Ministry. Light refreshments will be available afterwards. Parking is available in the lot across the street from the Church.

Marian High School News

High Stakes Indian Bingo - will be held on Sunday, March 14th in the gym. The doors and kitchen will open at noon. The games start promptly at 2:00 p.m. Advance tickets are available. Marian High School is non-smoking. Call (570) 467-0641 for more information.

Men of Marian Chinese Auction
The annual Men of Marian Chinese Auction will be held on Sunday, March 28, 2010. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. and the auction will begin at 2:30 p.m. Browsing will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. A special drawing for a 50" flat screen HD television will also be auctioned off at this annual event. Paul G. Nester Jr. Scholarship
Once again this year, the Nester Family will award two full one-year tuition scholarships to incoming ninth graders who will be entering Marian Catholic High School in August 2010. These scholarships are available to any student from Marian's feeder schools or students the Tamaqua School District. Academic standing, character, achievement, school, church and community participation and financial need shall be the major considerations. Students are also required to complete an essay. Applications are available at the feeder schools or the rectory. All applications are due at Marian Catholic High School by April 9, 2010.

Easter Egg Hunt
Members of the Student Council and the Development Office at Marian High School will host the seventh annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 3rd at the Marian campus. Registration will be at 9:30 and the Egg Hunt will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.
All children up to and including second grade (7 to 8 years of age) are eligible to participate. Gift bags will be distributed to all children and prizes will be given to some lucky participants. Marian High School announces the 2nd Annual Spring Gala to be held at the Valley Country Club in Conyngham on Friday, April 30th. Anyone interesting in receiving an invitation or more information, please call the Development Office at 467-0641. This is a major fundraiser, which directly benefits the students at Marian.

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Allentown Third Annual Gala "Love Thy Neighbor" on Sunday, March 21 at the Holiday Inn Fogelsville will feature Rev. Larry Snyder, President of Catholic Charities USA, who will speak on "Working to Reduce Poverty in America." Honorees include volunteers William J. Scharle of Allentown, Paul T. Essig, Esquire of Reading, and Milly Scrak, Ecumenical Kitchen. Guest reservations may be made with a check payable to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Allentown for $100 per guest.
