In 1998, Janet Bristow and Victoria Galo combined their love of knitting into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort or solace. This endeavor has continued to flourish! St. Joseph of the Panther Valley invites you to participate in this Corporal Work of Mercy.
How to participate: If you know how to knit and purl or single/double crochet, you can make a shawl. Prayer Shawl Ministry is a wonderful opportunity to be active in your church from the comfort of home! There are no meetings, deadlines, or dues.
Materials needed: Yarn, needles, and a pattern.
How it works: Before you being to knit or crochet a shawl, a prayer is said dedicating the work of your hands for the intentions of the receiver. When completed, the shawl is blessed and then given to a nursing home resident, someone who is homebound, a parishioner, neighbor, or friend in need of comfort or solace or for whatever reason.
